The Australian Federal Police has warned of a potential surge in online child abuse as parts of the country are plunged back into coronavirus lockdown.
Authorities said there had been a rise in online grooming during earlier shut downs and fear the same thing could happen again.
“Children are more likely to be targeted during the pandemic as they spend more time online with the possibility of limited adult supervision,” AFP Commander Jamie Strauss told Sunrise.
“The sad fact is that when children increase their activity online, predators also increase their activity and use it as an opportunity to try target and groom children.”
In response, Police are encouraging parents to be aware of the warning signs and to monitor their children’s’ online activity.
“It’s important that you know what your children are doing online and it’s important they feel comfortable to come and speak to you about any concerning activity.”
Strauss says parents should supervise their children when they’re using social networking, video and image sharing, gaming and instant messaging apps as well as websites.
He adds that you should frequently change passwords and have regular honest conversations with kids about their online activity.

주제 : 부모의 입장이었다면 어떻게 자녀를 보호할 것인가 ?
현대 사회에서 다양한 방법으로 범죄가 늘어나고 있다 특히 아동을 상대로 하는 디지털 범죄 행위가 기하급수적으로 늘어나고 있다. 어른들의 의해 보호 받아야 할 아동들이 오히려 어른들의 성 착취 목표물이 되어 위험에 처해 있다.
이는 일어나서는 안될 범죄 행위이며, 이런 일이 벌어질 경우 강력한 처벌로 다른 사람들이 모방 범죄를 일으키지 않도록 사전에 조치를 취해야 한다.
자녀를 가진 부모의 입장에서 아동 성 범죄로 부터 자녀를 보호하기 위해 어떤 행동을 취해야 할까 ?
첫 번째로 아이들과 원만한 의사소통을 유지합니다.
주기적으로 자녀들과 대화를 통해 대화의 장을 만듭니다. 아이들이 어려움 없이 부모에게 이야기를 할수 있도록 경청하고 공감합니다.
두 번째로 아동 보호 어플리케이션을 자녀의 핸드폰에 설치합니다.
자녀가 사용하는 핸드폰에 어플리케이션을 설치하여 자녀가 어떤 어플리케이션을 사용하는지 모니터링 합니다. 또한 유해한 프로그램을 다운로드 할수 없도록 미리 사전에 차단하여 2차 피해를 예방합니다.
그 이외에 자녀의 친구 부모들과 정보 교류를 하며 주기적인 커뮤니케이션을 통해 요즘 자녀들이 어떤 생각을 갖고 있는지 어떤 성향인지 미리 파악하는것도 방법중에 하나라고 생각됩니다.
